How long does ceramic coating last?

Real-world durability depends on the tier. OP-3 carries a 3-year warranty. OP-5 is warrantied for 5 years. OP-7 for 7 years. OP-Select, our flagship multi-layer self-healing coating, carries a 9-year registered manufacturer warranty and consistently outperforms single-layer coatings in real-world conditions. All warranties are on file with Owners Pride and are transferable between owners.

How is ceramic coating different from wax or a sealant?

Wax lasts weeks. A sealant lasts a few months. Owners Pride ceramic is a semi-permanent SiO₂/SiC layer that chemically bonds to your clear coat and lasts years, not weeks. It's harder, slicker, and way more hydrophobic. If you've been re-waxing every season, a coating is the last paint protection product you'll ever buy for the car.

Ceramic coating vs PPF: which do I need?

They do different jobs. PPF is a clear urethane film that physically absorbs rock chips, road rash, and light impacts. Ceramic coating is a bonded chemical layer that repels water, makes the paint slicker, and resists etching from bugs, bird droppings, and industrial fallout. The best setup for most Charleston customers is both: PPF on high-impact panels (hood, fenders, front bumper, mirrors) and ceramic over the rest. The film takes the hits; the coating keeps the whole car easier to clean.

What's the difference between multi-layer OP-Select and the single-layer coatings?

OP-Select is the only multi-layer coating in our lineup. A second ceramic layer goes over the base for extra durability, deeper gloss, and a self-healing topcoat where light scratches reflow with heat. The single-layer coatings (OP-3, OP-5, OP-7) still deliver excellent hydrophobics and years of protection, but OP-Select is the tier that performs best in real-world conditions and carries the longest warranty at 9 years.

How long does ceramic coating take to install?

Plan on 2 days. Day 1 is prep: wash, iron decontamination, clay bar, 1-step paint correction, and alcohol wipe-down. Day 2 is application (panel-by-panel under controlled lighting), followed by a 12+ hour indoor cure in our climate-controlled booth before the car leaves. We'll text you when it's ready for pickup.

When can I wash my car after ceramic coating?

Wait 7 full days before the first wash. The coating needs that window to fully cross-link and harden. After that, wash with a pH-neutral ceramic-safe shampoo, the two-bucket method, and quality microfiber. Skip automated touch-tunnels for good. They'll scratch any finish, coated or not.

How do I maintain ceramic coating long-term?

Touchless hand wash with a pH-neutral shampoo, the two-bucket method, and quality microfiber. Dry with a plush microfiber drying towel or filtered air. Avoid automated brush washes, ammonia-based cleaners, and alkaline wheel cleaners on coated wheels. No toppers or annual visits are required to keep your Owners Pride warranty. We do recommend a yearly decontamination wash at the shop to keep the gloss and water beading at their best, but it's optional.

Does ceramic coating prevent scratches and rock chips?

Not entirely. Ceramic coating adds a sacrificial layer and makes the paint harder, but it's not bulletproof. High-speed debris or a key drag will still reach the paint. If scratch and rock-chip protection is the priority, pair the coating with paint protection film (PPF) on the high-impact panels. The OP-Select self-healing topcoat is the closest you get to scratch resistance in a coating alone.

Should I ceramic coat a brand new car?

Yes. New is actually the ideal time. Paint is fresh, correction is minimal, and every mile you drive with a coating already on is a mile the paint is protected. New cars also leave the dealer with transport contaminants (rail dust, shipping wax, fallout) that need to come off before coating, and we handle all of it in our Day 1 prep. If you just picked up a new car, getting it coated before you daily-drive it is the move.

Where are you, and how far is it from Summerville?

Our studio is at 977 Royle Rd, Suite F, Ladson. That's about 12 minutes up College Park Rd from central Summerville, and under 15 from Nexton and most of Cane Bay. Summerville is our biggest ceramic coating market, so a lot of the cars in our bay made that same drive. Drop off on Day 1, pick up on Day 2 after the overnight cure.

Will ceramic coating stop pollen and oak sap from damaging my paint?

It keeps both from bonding to the clear coat. Sap that used to need a clay bar rinses off with a hose, and spring pollen washes off in seconds instead of baking on and etching the paint. Pollen still lands on the car, since nothing prevents that, but spring car care goes from a 30-minute job to a 5-minute one.
