- Probably, and it is easy to check — look at the hood under direct sun or a phone torch held close. Fine circular scratching is dealer-prep marring, and it is present on the large majority of new cars we see. It is also the easiest correction we ever do, because the defects are shallow and the clear coat is untouched.
- Can you correct paint that already has a dealer coating on it?
- Yes, and it usually comes off during the correction anyway. Most dealer add-ons are sealants that abrade away in the first compounding pass, which tells you something about their durability. We will identify what is on the car before starting so nothing surprises either of us mid-job.
- Does construction dust actually scratch paint?
