Ceramic Window Tint for Charleston, SC Drivers
Charleston cars live outdoors. Peninsula parking, marsh humidity, and full Lowcountry sun bake interiors and bleach dashboards inside two summers if the glass isn't doing its job. Ceramic tint cuts the heat at the window — before the AC has to fight it.
What we see specifically on Charleston vehicles.
Most downtown and Peninsula homes don't have a garage, so cars sit in direct UV all day. Add West Ashley and James Island commutes that bake the cabin on the way home, and the case for IR-rejecting ceramic tint becomes obvious. We see Charleston dashboards crack and leather fade three years sooner than the same vehicles parked under cover. Heat rejection isn't a comfort upgrade in this market — it's a paint-and-interior preservation tool that keeps resale intact.
The right tier for the way Charleston drivers actually drive.
For most Charleston daily drivers we recommend LuxeGuard Nano — 90–92% IR rejection, lifetime warranty, priced where it makes sense to do every window. For Tesla owners, premium SUVs, and anyone parking outside on the Peninsula, LuxeGuard Pro HD jumps to 97–99% IR and is what we install on our own cars.

What Charleston drivers ask before they book.
- How dark can I tint legally in Charleston, SC?
- South Carolina law allows 27% VLT minimum on front side windows, with no darkness restriction on rear side or rear glass. Most Charleston customers run 27–35% on fronts paired with 20% on rears for the cleanest look that's still legal everywhere in the state.
- Will tint affect my Tesla, BMW, or Mercedes' built-in defrosters and antennas?
- No. Every film we install on Charleston vehicles is metal-free ceramic — defrosters, GPS, cell, Bluetooth, satellite radio, dash cams, toll transponders, and rain sensors all keep working normally. We see this question most often from Daniel Island and Mount Pleasant Tesla owners; the answer is the same.
- Which tier should I pick?
- Honest answer: if the budget works, go Pro HD. It's only $50 more than our mid-tier Nano Ceramic but jumps you from 90–92% to 97–99% IR rejection with noticeably higher optical clarity — you'll feel the difference the first time you drive home in the Charleston sun. Nano is our sweet spot if budget matters and you still want serious heat rejection. 3M Ceramic IR is a solid entry if you just need a good ceramic tint from a trusted name at a lower price.
- What tint is legal in South Carolina?
- SC tint law depends on your vehicle. If your car is a sedan or coupe that came with clear factory glass on every window, you're limited to 27% VLT or lighter on all side windows AND the back glass (so 27%, 35%, 50%, and 70% are the legal options). If your vehicle came with factory-tinted rear glass from the manufacturer — most SUVs and trucks — the rear windows can be any shade you want, and only the front two side windows are capped at 27% VLT. Windshield tint is restricted to above the AS-1 line on every vehicle. We'll install any shade you choose — but we'll also walk you through what's legal on your specific vehicle before you commit.
- Is there a medical exemption for darker tint in South Carolina?
- Yes. South Carolina allows a medical exemption for documented conditions — lupus, severe photosensitivity, skin cancer history, melanoma, and other physician-verified diagnoses. Your doctor completes the exemption form, you carry a signed exemption card with the vehicle, and you can legally run any shade on the side and rear glass. We've installed plenty of exemption-level tint for local customers and can walk you through the paperwork.
